Does My Business Need a Website and Social Media?
Every business should have a website and use social media. Websites and social media increase brand awareness, establishes your business as being legitimate, increases sales, gives you easy access to potential customers, and brings more people into your stores. Owners with websites find their websites cut down on time-consuming phone calls. Websites can answer many questions consumers may have.
Your website should be the central hub for your online presence. It should look professional to make a good impression on potential customers. You can engage visitors to your site by having photo galleries of your work, products, “behind-the-scenes”, employees, or happy customers.
Many consumers search for information online before making purchases. Consumers expect businesses to have a website. I know that when I am looking for a local business to deal with, the first place I look is online. If a business does not have a website or if it looks unprofessional, I usually disregard that business. Approximately fifty-five percent of small businesses don’t have a website, according to a survey in 2013 by Google and Ipsos. Many businesses do not have a website simply because their competition does not have one. In this case you can gain an advantage over your competitors by having a website.
Businesses often use social media and believe that is all they need. However, they are missing a lot of potential customers who may not use the same social media platforms. Consumers also want to be able to find businesses easily in search engines like Google. Social media is a great way to connect with people, but it should not be the primary online presence. It should be used in conjunction with your website.
I know that small business owners are very busy people and often think they do not have time to build a website. There is also a misconception that hiring someone to build a website has to be expensive. It does not have to be time consuming or expensive. You can always start with a small website and expand it later or even have it re-designed as your business grows.
Your website and social media should be an important part of your business. I will write more specifically about social media in a future blog post. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
